Use of UID not user-friendly
Reported by John Vanderbeck | December 1st, 2009 @ 11:38 PM | in Beta 3
The use of the UID in the main interface to list the mods is not user-friendly towards non-modders.
When I first got Dragon's Age I played through about half the game without mods; then went out and went mod-crazy, and ruined the fun of the game :) So, I went into DA's own interface and disabled most of them, and eventually decided I wanted to uninstall them completely. Learning (eventually) I had to do so manually, I went into the AddIns folder and found all the uid's -- and blinked.
Users aren't exposed to uid's so might have no idea what they are, and while they can click through the list to get the name in Details, it would be much better IMHO for non-modders to be able to select in the main list, mods by name. Perhaps name + uid for power-users.

The reason UIDs are, currently, used is that they are guaranteed to be unique. Mod names are not, and there is always the possability someone may have two different mods installed with the same name. UIDs are also always short so they fit in the box better :p
However I will look into improving this section of the UI and thank you for the input.

couldnt there be a made a tooltip upon hovering with the mouse over it that shows the name of the mod?
that would provide atleast alittle better end-user experience, altough it dosent solve the "issue".
maybe i can come on something better, i will give it more thought. -

The problem I am seeing now is that the program only shows a single stringlist of currently installed mods with no logical listing or categorization. Would it be possible for the program to automatically list mods into different sub categories (textures, items, modules, etc.) depending on the makeup of the files within the mod?

Not really since there is no such information for the program to work with.

But every Mod has a Publisher Field, and the official DLC has it allways listed as "Electronic Arts".
Couldnt that be used to sort the list?

Sure to sort between Bioware and 3rd party, but not :
automatically list mods into different sub categories (textures, items, modules, etc.)

About the best I could do would be indicate which are Core Override mods and which are Standard mods. Which I was thinking about doing already.
