Suggestion: Add backup option on the backup/restore tab

Reported by Adaram | December 2nd, 2009 @ 01:04 PM | in Beta 3

Add a "Backup" button beside the "Restore" button on the backup/restore tab.
Not urgent, maybe not even needed, but for some peeople, it will make them feel more comfortable.

if you make such a button consider also the option to name the file with a number (or something) and make sure those files are stored seperatly from the automatic updates so there can be no mixing between them.

Maybe such a manual Backup function should include more than just the adins.xml, maybe all relevant files could be stored in a zip for later restore if necessary.

well was just an idea i play around with, no clue if its necessary, wished, hard to implement...

The application automatically creates a backup each time you install or uninstall a mod. Are you asking for a way to create a specifically named backup file?

right, to backup all installed mods and the relevant files + the last savegame that relates to these files.

that would be a great feature, you back it up, mess with a bunch of mods to try them out, see you dont like them, and instead of delete them all by hand you just restore the manual backup.

Ok so i've given this some thought and this is what i'm thinking.

Instead of a simple file backup like what we have right now, we allow DAModder to essentially save the "state" of the settings before making changes. What is included in that state will be up to the user.

Option 1) Backup settings files only. This will save a backup of the files which contain the game and mod settings. AddIns.xml, DAModder.xml, DragonAge.ini & Offers.xml

Option 2) Backup settings and saved games

Option 3) Backup settings, saved games, and installed addins

Option 4 Backup settings, saved games, and installed addins (Builder Version) -- This would be the same as option 3 but go deeper, actually saving ALL files contained within the add in directories which would include custom files & working files. Things the game doesn't use but the builder does.
