possible bug - delete of installed mods when restoring a backup

Reported by Alex "Alexspeed" Bachner | December 14th, 2009 @ 08:41 AM

This is from Beta 2.2.0

When you create a backup with your mods,
then install new mods,
and later restore that backup,
should the restore delete the new mods you installed,
between the time you created that backup and you restored it?

I am asking this because those mods get deleted from the addins.xml apparently,
because they are gone from the installed mods list,
but the actual files in "\BioWare\Dragon Age\AddIns" and the override folder stay there.

is this working as intended or should those files not be gone with the restoration of the backup?

Didn't we already talk about this in an earlier version? heh. At the moment that is how it works because the restore simply restores whatever files you backed up. It doesn't delete anything, but since you restored your old AddIns file, the newer mods aren't listed in it anymore.

Once I have a mechanism in place for saving what is stored in the backup, then I will be providing an option to wipe the data clean before restoring to the backup.

Yeah we did talk about it with the old backup system, but i found it appropiate to bring it up again with the new system now.
Its totally confusing for me that those files dosent get deleted, maybe i am just weird :P

If i want to restore something to a former state i want exactly that state restored, including deletion of files that wernt there before.

Glad you have allready something in mind to solve this =)

Well like I said it isn't so much a "state" that you are restoring too. Just a backup of all the files that were there at the time, and now those files are being put back.

    • Tag changed from backuprestore, bug to backuprestore, feature_request, suggestion

i see, so we have different views on what a restore should do. well thats no problem, then consider what i wrote as a suggestion or feature request that could maybe be implemented as an additional option, to give the user the choice to delete this stuff or leave it there.
